Treb Monteras III’s Respeto (2017) was listed in Gawad Urian’s best films of the last decade (Mga Natatanging Pelikula ng Dekada).
The Gawad Urian Awards is one of the most prestigious film awards held in the Philippines. The awarding is judged by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (MPP) or the Filipino Film Critics, a group of film writers, critics, and scholars. With its main goal of giving recognition to local films with remarkable artistry, the Gawad Urian Awards was established in 1976 to celebrate the achievements of Philippine cinema, as well as the skills of our local filmmakers.
Respeto, a hip-hop film centering on how its main character Hendrix (Abra) navigates a world of abuses and injustice, is among the eleven chosen in 2021, making the cut along with other astounding films in the lineup such as Lav Diaz’ Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan (2013), Erik Matti’s BuyBust (2018), and Sheron Dayoc’s Women of the Weeping River (2016).
In 2018, Respeto also received a whopping 12 nominations in the 41st Gawad Urian and won 4.
